The application does not need any significant learning time. In fact, one could get productive right away. Connection hosts, machine designations and whether they are currently in connected or disconnected status can be seen at a glance through a layout presented. The punches could be connected to the managing machine either directly via serial cable, over Ethernet in the company campus or through a modem for remote distances. What the manager/administrator can set up are a whole set of very useful features that include adding or removing a device, device calibration, Date & time setup, bell schedules, adding/removing/transferring a user from a attendance machine are some of the management functions that has to be undertaken whenever there are more than a few devices in use. Back up and restore of attendance data is another prime need for management of these devices.

Cons: An attendance system that also has a admin module taking care of the functions this application does would be the right fit for this package. This package does only the management functions including calibration. Calibration history capture would be an essential security feature as would audit trail of changes in user community at a particular machine would be useful too.
