Pros: Biometric Handpunch Manager is an application that lets you manage a set of biometric handpunch machines that are used over several locations in an organization. The machines could be connected to the managing machine either directly ( via serial cable, over Ethernet in the company campus or through modem for remote distances,
Adding or removing a device, device calibration, Date & time setup, bell schedules, adding/removing/transferring a user from a attendance machine are some of the management functions that has to be undertaken whenever you have more than a few devices in use. Back up and restore of attendance data is another prime need for management of these devices.
The user interface is very simple. The application does not need any significant learning time. In fact, one could get productive right away. The opening picture that you see shows the deployment of your handpunch machine over the enterprise. Connection hosts, machine designations and whether they are currently in connected or disconnected status can be seen at a glance.
Cons: I would expect this kind of a management module to be a part of a complete attendance application, where these functions are a necessary part. This application however, does only device management and none of the attendance management.
Calibration history capture would be useful in the given context of use. Similarly audit trail of changes in user community at a a particular machine would be useful too.
Overall: It is a easy to use package, even though for a limited purpose. Personally, I would think, this would be a nice addition to the attendance application for biometric devices. This is a 3 star rated package overall.
