Smart Messenger is a desktop application for sending SMS worldwide.

Pros: Smart Messenger is a desktop software able to send messages from your computer to mobile phones. The application has the look and feel of the MS Outlook and facilitates quick messaging to groups and individuals. Form of communications that complement the enterprise communication facilities. It is quite cost-effective too.

Smart Messenger has the ability to send normal SMS, flash SMS ( direct display on the mobile) and WAP based push SMS messages (download company logo, map directions etc). It supports Unicode and that gives it an ability to converse in a whole range of languages, particularly most of the Asian languages.

The outlook like interface makes it easy to learn and use. Several features available are quite useful. While creating contacts is easy, it is equally easy to import contact details from Outlook, Excel or text files in CSV format. Messages actually could be sent directly from an excel sheet without actually importing the contact details. Templates could be used for regular reports that are sent.

For sending messages from a group address, personalization is possible in the mail-merge fashion by “one click” insertion of names into group messages. Manage message communication through inbox/outbox/sent folder etc much like in Outlook fashion.

Cons: Currently this service is only available for subscribers of the Etisalat communication system only.

Overall: Without being able to actually send and receive message, it is difficult to say for sure how well this application works, assuming sufficient testing has been done before release; one could comment on the functionality and the interface. Based on the concept, features and the user interaction this application does reach a level of 3 stars at least.
