CurvFit (tm) is a curve fitting program for Windows 95/98. Lorentzian, Sine, Exponential and Power series are available models to match your data. A Lorentzian series is highly recommended for real data especially for multiple peaked and/or valleys data. CurvFit is an example of Fortran Calculus programming... ie. minutes to solve, days or years to understand solution and what it implies (e.g. wrong model, sampling rate error, etc.). Helps learn 1) whether math model is good for given data; 2) convergence implies a reasonable solution; 3) how to select new starting initial parameter values. See comments in EX*.? files for ideas on how to converge via solvers. Equation Calculator and Hardcopy Plot prints are now (6/2005) available.

A curve fitting program using Lorentzian, Sine, Exponential and Power series models to match your data. A Lorentzian series is recommended for real data especially for multiple peaked data.

Pros: CurvFit is a curve fitting program for Windows 95/98. Several mathematical models are available to help find the best fit for a set of data. These include Lorentzian, Sine, damped sine, Exponential, modified Lorentzian, Exponential and Power series etc. For example the Lorentzian series is a possible good fit for data with multiple peaks and troughs. Trying to fit a curve to the set of data points often results in a situation where you understand the solution and what it implies; if a wrong model is being used or parameters are not appropriate or there exists sampling rate error, etc. Convergence of the solution implies a good fit thus one understands the model was good to start with and what initial parameters need to be used. Curve fitting is an Inverse Problem in some cases. For example, you might have some Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) where you know the solution data points but question some parameters in the ODEs. The target would be your data points and parameter values would be what you are trying to determine. Another example would be determining a electrical circuit parameters when you know the (target) circuit response desired. The application is based on Fortran Calculus programming. What the CurveFit does achieve is finding the right model for a set of data, a convergence report that’ll tell you if an accurate solution has been arrived at and how to select new starting initial parameter values, model, sampling rate error etc.

Cons: No apparent problems here, but this program is strictly for experts who understand the implications of the solution finding, fine tuning etc. Curve display can be improved.

Overall: The application fills a very useful niche and is a specialized tool and is overall a 4 star package.
