This is a software tool to illustrate the thermal design of kettle type reboilers.

This software tool demonstrates the thermal design calculations and analysis of Kettle type reboilers. The software can be used to make preliminary sizing calculations that will help get a clear feel of the initial design. The tool can use either SI units or English (US) units. Calculation of duty, area, tube length and number of tubes are done easily. Shell diameter is arrived at by iterations. The tool has an estimation database that can help estimate the physical properties of something like 1450 components. Thermal Conductivity, Density, Heat Capacity and Viscosity are estimated. Critical properties, boiling and melting points are also available in databases. Fouling factors, overall heat transfer coefficients are available in databases. Features available lets users add or delete components. Import of properties to shell/tube sides through Excel, result summary via Excel again is possible. Save and load of results and generation and/or printing results summary are some other useful features.

The interface is simple and direct, but then not many things need be controlled through it. Some informational data for the design such as company, project number, name etc. are entered through text boxes provided for them. Set the units and you are on. Buttons for import, export, save results etc. related buttons are clearly marked. If you know what you are doing, using this tool should not be difficult. Weir weight, side heat transfer coefficients and such other parameters are calculated by the tool. If you are into design of the kettle type reboilers, this is a tool that can be really useful.
