This design software helps with designs of orifices required in systems involving gas and liquid flow.
This software tool helps size a gas/liquid orifice plate using the ISO 5167 (2003) International standard. It also uses the standard design calculations based on the Crane`s flow of Fluids through Valves equation 3.22. Besides, it will let you calculate fittings and pipes, calculate the mass flow rate required for a certain orifice size and plot a profile chart of various mass flow rates vs. orifice sizes. Restriction orifices and or square edge orifices sizing can be done through this calculator as well. You can export the design data in a MS Excel sheet for printing and other processing. With the available save and load features the design session can span several sessions/ days on the computer. You are not constrained to complete a design cycle in one computer session.
The tool supports both SI units as well as English units of measurements. Thus, users should not feel restricted any way. You are able to calculate velocity, pressure loss, Reynolds` number, Coefficient of discharge, Beta, Cross sectional area and volumetric flow rate. Mass flow rate upstream of an Orifice can be calculated as can the support corner tapping, D and D/2 tapping and flange tapping for ISO method and D and D/2 tapping for Crane method. Standard pipe sizes, schedules, thicknesses, etc. are included. Charts such as profile for calculated mass flow rates versus calculated orifice diameters are possible with the software. The interface is nice and clean with just a few clicks required for selecting the design parameters. This is a good engineering tool.
