MITCalc helps with torsion spring design.
The calculations provided by MITCalc are intended for the purposes of geometric and strength designs of spiral cylindrical torsion springs. Spring designs that are made from wires and rods in circular sections, cold formed and loaded with a static or cyclic loading are handled. The software is based on MS Excel and the interface is available in multiple languages. Both Imperial and metric system of units are supported. The spring design is automatic. What you get is the optimal design of the spring with respect to strength, geometry and weight. Several variable related to strength of materials also are taken into account. You can specify if the material is going to be cold formed or hot formed spring. The effects of static and dynamic strength tests can be estimated.
The interface is simple, you simply check tick the check boxes as appropriate. You can specify load conditions, operational and production parameters. Options to choose material are also available in the input section. You specify the design parameters in the spring design section. Summarized list of designed spring parameters, parameters specific to designed load conditions and parameters related to fatigue loading are output in the results section. Supplementary design data available include spring check calculations, calculations of working forces of the spring, calculation of working angles of the spring etc. Finally it produces a CAD drawing too and you can tick the check box if you need that. CAD drawing formats supported are AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, IntelliCAD, Ashlar Graphite, TurboCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, SolidEdge and Pro/E. Design parameters conform to ISO, ASTM/SAE, DIN, BS, JIS standards.
