This software is a collection of two web parts. One is the password change web part while the other is the password expiration warning web part.

Web parts in SharePoint add significant functionality to your SharePoint system. Web parts improve business efficiency and productivity by allowing you to customize any portal to meet your business needs most optimally. SharePoint Password Change & Expiration has two Web Parts that helps with password change and the other lets you issue warnings when passwords are about to expire. The Password Change Web Part allows AD, Local NT or Forms-Authenticated users to change their own passwords. Users can do this on the Share Point portal without admin intervention. The process works simply as what most of us are familiar with. When a user reaches a page where this web part is configured it detects user’s domain name and the user name and offers the familiar password change format. This is where the user enters his old password and new password and the new password confirmation. The web part will send an email confirming a successful change or an error message. What the web part does is verify the authenticity of the old password and that the new password is valid and then makes the change. Error message is triggered by incorrect password or a password submitted that violates password policy.

Password expiry notifications can have a policy that says how many times notifications will be sent and when the notifications should start. One could exclude a site or a group of users from the notifications. You can also choose to notify or not the admins. The notification mail subject and the content can be customized. The process of password changing is similar to the above regular password change. The tool is really very handy and can ease the burdens of administrators significantly for this routine yet necessary and crucial activity.
