What Does It Do?
Out-of-box SharePoint list settings support intra-site lookup field but cannot meet end users' demands when it comes to looking up some information on other sites in the same site collection. SharePoint Cross-Site Lookup provides additional features beyond the default Lookup function and most SharePoint Cross-Site Lookup solutions. These features include:
Allow users to refer to a list from a different site in one site collection.
Support conversion from Cross-Site Lookup column to default Lookup type; therefore, altering the content of Cross-Site Lookup column in datasheet view can be achieved.
Find-as-you-type function makes all the objects which are listed in the Dropdown list with the same letter as the input word shadowed and selected quickly.
Support FILTER function for Cross-Site Lookup column by selecting some list view of the look-upped list.

Pros: Sharepoint settings let you do intra-site look ups. But quite often what the end user needs is a control for who can access or view specific parts of a collection of information. This application provides additional functionalities beyond what`s available in the Sharepoint. SharePoint Column Permission can make a column invisible or read-only to certain people. There are three view types Public View, Accountant View, and Administration View. One, without permission to a column belonging to a certain view, cannot access to this view also. In a employee information sheet, for example, everyone can view the basic information like name and ID. Only the accountants are allowed access to salary column and administration staff have permission to all columns except salary column. You need this application if you need this flexibility beyond the default facilities of SharePoint.
