If you`re from Canada stay away from WhiteSmoke. They don`t offer toll free phone support to Canadians and their chat support is useless, so you can`t get decent support from them. They also don`t have Canadian spell checking.

The software is the best I have used on-line. The color coding is extremely clever and useful. Easy to pick up the errors and to differentiate by color, between a spelling error grammatical error and place to insert a word. The WhiteSmoke software also gives explanations of the suggested words. That could be regarded as an on-line lesson. Nice software

Very, very nice, user friendly software. I have found it time saving since I don`t have to edit the work I do before I send it out WhiteSmoke does it for me. The tutorials are great and I am also using the built-in templates that are available for every use.

This is such a good help with your writing. I bought it after a friend told me about it, she had it for awhile and knew i wanted to improve my writing, she was right. it does find you`re mistakes and its easy to fix.

WhiteSmoke general writing version is an excellent writing checker. I bought it becuase my teacher was on my back about my grammar. It has helped me to edit my essays and get rid of mistakes before handing them in. Also, the support is really good. I had to call once to request the backup CD because I lost mine and a replacement was sent to me that day, I got it a week later or something. Its a great tool to have.

White Smoke fixed so many grammar errors in my papers for school, which is exactly what I bought the program for. My teacher is pretty strict and I needed something to help outside of class, and the General Writing version took care of it. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to brush up on their grammar, punctuation, syntax, etc. etc.

I started using WHite Smoke in January. I had some problems installing it but e-mailed the company and heard back a day later. After that, it`s worked without a problem. I use it at work to fix my grammar in work-related emails, but lately I started writing more at home, short storeis for now, and Whitesmoke has helped a lot with vocabulary and phrasing.

I have had the General Writing version 2009 since October. Grammar editor is much better than Word. Nice interface and easy installation.

Nice grammar check and style suggestions. Very useful proofreader. Bought the Business profile of whitesmoke last month and am happy with the results. Can send e-mails faster and free of careless mistakes. Text enrichment is a plus as well.

I have been using Whitesmoke for the past few months and feel it has greatly improved my writing. I am not so great at grammar and was always curious if there was a way to improve, and Whitesmoke lets me easily fix things that I might not have noticed otherwise. The English lessons and articles are also really helpful. As for customer service, I actually had a positive experience; I placed a call a few weeks ago and was called back the next day.

Whitesmoke comes off as an excellent product. There are many reviews stating that it is a good program. However, after purchasing the program I have some concerns. 1) I did not receive the product I purchased. I purchased the Creative writing program and was only able to access the general program. 2) Customer service seems non-existent. Upon emailing them about the mistake in the product I received, I received an automated response that I would be contacted in three days. I received no response. 3) The program stopped working after four days of use. Again there was no customer service. 4) I requested my money back per their money back guarantee- Requested via their online application as well as sending a fax. I have received no communication from the company nor my money back. The silence from the company is bothering. Thought I would put out a review on the 2009 product. It sounds as if the reviews on the 2008 product were great. But 2009 seems to be a bit of a lemon. Also don`t expect any help or support. And, don`t expect your money back. I feel as though I have been scammed.

Basically it says that we make no promise it will work and if you want to sue us you have to come to New York and sue our Delaware Corporation. This software is abysmal! The company`s business practices are worse. Before the purchase I was assured that what I was buying did not require connection to the internet. Also, I purchased during a period that claimed to provide a full suite of the products for a low price. I got decent response from the company up until I made the purchase. Once I purchased the product, I found that indeed I did need to have an internet connection in order to use the product and the full purchase license only gave me access to the basic product. When I used the product, I found it inferior to the standard tools in MS Word (as others here have commented). Though I cannot comment on the more advanced versions. I then made several attempts to contact the company through email. I got no answers. Since I purchased through PayPal, I requested their help in resolving the issue. They refused, since it was not a product that was listed on eBay. Only when I sent a more pointed and direct email that clearly stated that I would exercise legal remedies if I was not attended to. It took over a month for the refund(6 weeks). This company is not the kind of company that I would suggest anyone do business with. I would give them no stars but that is not one of the selections. Not sure how they got a 2 star rating from users given the comments and certainly not sure about the 5 star rating from the editors.

In my opinion, Whitesmoke is no more than a scam of promises! I ‘m an English language teacher in China. Part of my job is to ‘mark’ correspondence work from students and I thought I could do with a worthwhile ‘writing programme. Wish I hadn’t. For those of us who can read and write to a secondary school level Whitesmoke is worthless. The grammar check and Thesaurus in Microsoft Office is better and FREE. Not only is does this software not do what the promoters suggest it will do, but it actually makes its own mistakes. It offers alternative words and grammar that are absolute nonsense. I really wish I had downloaded a trial version, however, due to its Guaranteed Money Back promise I took the plunge and bought it on the basis of favorable reviews. I don’t want to risk insulting some reviewers here but my God, one can only guess at their own level of English! Now to the sticking point. Whitesmoke’s guarantee has been proven worthless to me at this moment in time. Having supplied the ‘requested’ evidence of my complaints, I was offered a deal of extra expensive software…free. I declined the offer and focused on my ‘Guaranteed Refund’. I was then told that I would have to wait up to a month, and in the meantime I was sent a promissory note! The inconvenience of this ‘waiting’ is a real nuisance I have say. Anyway, not only has the month past-by well and truly but, no contact from Whitesmoke. I have suspected I might have to chase them for my ‘Guaranteed Refund’ so I sent a frustrated e-mail to them and guess what?…NO REPLY. So my good readers, you have been warned! Ratings: NO STARS!!

I wish I read the first review before I bought it. I have a mac. The system requires that you do the work on line and guess what! you can not save it. It does not copy - you are just out of luck. This is a terrible product. Do not buy it.

Whitesmoke is a rip off. I bought the legal version on October 14th 2006, I have to say , its one of the worst software I have ever used. Its very hard to use and it doesn’t do much either. I suggest you save your money and use Microsoft office or some other online free service. The funny part was that when I cancelled my purchase on October 21st 2006, white smoke support told me that refund will take about 30 days. I had to file a complaint with my credit card and better business bureau to get my money back but took me some 15 days. Stay away from this company and their products.
