Gothic Chess is chess played with two new pieces on a board 10 columns wide instead of 8. The new pieces are the Chancellor (Knight + Rook movements) and the Archbishop
(Knight + Bishop movements). Adding such pieces to the board was originally advocated by former World Champion Jose Capablanca. These new pieces make the entire experience much more interesting and very dynamic, reducing the average number of moves per game to 36 (it is currently 63 for tournament chess!)

Gothic Vortex is a strong Gothic Chess program, complete with an opening book and endgame tablebases for announcing mate in up to 268 moves!
