To speed up the scan process you can specify specific folders (such as My ebooks) which AlfaEbooks should scan. The results of the scan (i.e. found ebooks) are automatically added to an ebook database called the e-library. Duplicates, if any are handled by AlfaEbooks so that multiple entries do not appear in the e-library. Apart from the fields that are automatically populated by AlfaEbooks following the scan, there are many other fields that can be filled up by the user (these fields include number of pages, weight, price, genre, publisher, and more). The information about the books can also be updated from the internet using a number of online resources such as Google Books, Amazon, Oreilly and others. Each of the fields can also be used to do an ebook search. Previews of books in PDF and 3D ebook format can also be downloaded from the various book sources such as Google Books and Amazon. A book can be published to the web in a structured HTML ebook format and similarly, you can publish book information, and share information about your entire e-library. Group operations allow you to modify the information of a group or selection of books simultaneously. The backend of the e-library is MS Access and this enables the generation of a number of database statistics (and so ebook statistics in this case) that can be viewed in graphical form. Finally, a database backup and restore feature ensures that the e-library database is always safe regardless of physical or operating system failures.
