A book collection manager that enables you to keep track of all your books and organize them in a logical fashion. The software can also be used by small library managers, bookstores and book clubs.
Pros: Book Organizer Deluxe is a book collection manager. It enables the user to store all information related to a particular book. A record template makes the task of creating the initial record for books, simple. Once entered this book data can be viewed in several different formats – database tables, lists, detailed book record viewer, and customizable HTML views. Book reports, labels, reports can be created easily. These labels (along with bar codes) can then be attached to the books for the task of easy organization. The database can be backed up through its own backup engine. Plus, book data can be sent through email. Security is enhanced through advanced authentication and encryption features. Book data can be exported / imported to share with friends or family. For example, suppose you get married, then your partner’s book collection data can also be merged together to form a master list (presuming they have their collection in the same format). Finally, other collections can be managed through the same utility by adding a plug-in downloaded from the internet: music, movies, etc. These are free for registered users.
Cons: For personal use, the first deterrent is the price. Simply put, the software doesn’t seem to be worth the price tag for the average user. Managing books is easier than managing music, MP3, movies etc. and needs a decent list managing utility that allows searching by 3 or more different fields (Author, Title, Genre, etc.), there are several common utilities that can provide this functionality (example: EXCEL, ACCESS, GoogleDocs). Moreover, the software has a really poor interface. The basic list view makes it hard to sort through (scroll through) and read information related to books (not to mention the poor color schemes). There are also few customization options. As for its use in libraries or small stores, there is a lack of information storage capacity related to a book (example: price, call number) that will prove to be a limitation.
Overall: 4 stars. It has a pretty good set of features and is a good collection manager. But it has a poor interface and is simply too pricey for personal use. Some issues exist for library and store use.
