Pros: Are you looking to throw a grand party but are worried that for the party to be a real hit you’ll need to hire a professional bartender? Are none of your friends willing to step up and tend bar? Then here’s a solution for you. BarGenie features recipes for more than 29,500 different drinks. The search facility lets you search for exactly what drink that you (or your guest) are looking for. You can mark your favorite drinks so that they are available to you whenever you need them. If there’s a special kind of drink that you like to prepare (or the rare circumstance that a drink is not in the database), then you can enter it into the system. In case you are left with not knowing what to make (say you have leftovers from that big party), just enter what’s available and the system will come up with a few options. In addition to these there is also a Bartending manual that explains Bartending terms and techniques. Finally, a Blood Alcohol Level calculator allows you to assess the intoxication level of yourself or others at the party.

Cons: The interface is designed with simplicity in mind. However, in some senses it is a bit too simple. The instructions are sometimes too short and not clear enough to enable one to prepare the drink. In a way the instructions seem to have been made with a fairly expert bartender in mind. Novices may still need additional instructions to get going (reading the Bartending manual should be a luxury, not a necessity). Also, there should be a running alcohol level calculator for each drink and not only when the facility is invoked (i.e. the blood alcohol level calculator).

Overall: 4 stars. For Bartending enthusiasts, or just one looking to throw a big party this is an extremely useful tool. However, there are certain limitations in the interface.
