A recipe management utility that lets you organize recipes, ingredients, menus and more.
Pros: The Digital Cookbook is a comprehensive recipe management utility. It lets you manage recipes, ingredients, menus and more. Nutritional analysis is available for the various ingredients that are being used and this serves to produce a nutritional analysis for a given recipe. The same is true for costing. Creating shopping lists is also easy, and this can be done by picking items off of the ingredients list. A search engine lets you look for a particular recipe by recipe name, type, recipe contents and more. As you create a menu, the shopping list is automatically populated. You can then delete the stuff that you already have, or are not planning to use, and you’re away. That big party that you are planning to show off your culinary skills can now become a reality without too much trouble. Import / Export functionality lets you share recipes with friends and family and you can also access the My Digital Kitchen website online, which is a place for users of Digital Cookbook worldwide to share their recipes. You can not only print shopping lists, and recipes, but also entire menus, that you can use for costing and also to announce to your guests what’s for dinner.
Cons: Aesthetically, the interface is excellent. However, as compared to some recipe and cookery software that have a really good way of presenting a given menu, the Digital Cookbook does a poorer job (in fact, porting a standard cookbook view into the digital domain would have done the job). This is a serious limitation for something that calls itself a “Digital Cookbook”. Other than that there are no other major problems here. They could have added some way to quickly identify the type of a recipe (say through color coding).
Overall: 4 stars. This is a decent Cookbook software and will be liked by most people who enjoy cooking. However, the presentation format of the recipe needs improvement.
