AKVIS Noise Buster is noise suppression software for digital and scanned images. Noise Buster reduces both luminance and color noise on digital images without spoiling other aspects of the photo. Now your photos look neat and accomplished.

Pros: Digital cameras made it easy to shoot photographs. But depending on the capability of the sensor used in the product they often produce noisy pixels on the photo/image. It can be seen as grains that compromise the smoothness of the photo. It is especially annoying on the skin areas as it makes the skin shade look uneven. This kind of noise is called luminance noise. There can also be chroma (color) noise which is seen as random red and blue pixels spoiling the color accuracy of the photograph. Heating of the sensor, size of pixels in the sensor, long exposure timings, low light shooting with high ISO sensitivity cause this noise on the images shot. Both luminance and chroma noises are corrected by the application. The tool offers an option of automatic filtering based on the analysis of the overall image noise. It is possible to set parameters and tweak the results. One can see the current picture and the effect of the filtering parameter in real-time so that the right settings could be chosen. If there are common problems one could set the parameters and choose to save these as presets to be applied to a whole batch of photographs. The application has a standalone version as well as a plug-in version. The plug-in version can work with most well know photo editors including Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo, and others. The plug-in can handle batch processing too. Several language versions are available.

Cons: One needs to have trained eyes to see the subtle problems and the effects the noise removal has, or even to decide what effects to apply. Otherwise this can become completely random effort at improvement of your photos.

Overall: Quite a nice set of features and wizard like operation qualifies this package to a 4 star level.
