Quick MTF is designed for fast assessment and comparison of the major image quality components. Measures resolution (MTF, LSF, edge profile), chromatic aberration and noise. Measurements are presented in graphical and numerical form.
Pros: Quick MTF is lets you do assessment of image quality. This is based on some major quality components and lets you compare devices through which the test images have been taken. Thus this could give you a quick and surefire method of comparing two devices of the same type. The devices being evaluated may be lens, camera or a scanner. Image quality depends on shooting mode, distance from image center, additional equipment used such as filters, flash guns etc. To estimate your target device, all you need is a picture of a very simple object taken with it and then compare the quality of the images taken through the target devices.
The program measures resolution, SFR or spatial frequency response also called MTF modulation transfer function, edge profile (edge spread function) and LSF (line spread function). Chromatic aberration also is measured in pixels. CA is determined as a percent of image height and distance from an image center. Color noise is another parameter used for quality measurement. This is measured as dispersion of high frequency noise component in shadows and highlights. Graphical as well numerical representations of the results are used. Measurements can be exported in XML and HTML forms.
Cons: This is clearly for the knowledgeable. Unless you understand what the parameters mean neither the numbers nor the charts are going to mean anything.
Overall this does a good job of some sophisticated image processing. It is useful for a difficult task. This clearly is a 4 star package.
