It is quite easy to catalog movies/TV shows etc by downloading information from the net.

CATVids has a comprehensive set of data fields, enabling you to catalog a wide range of information; title, media format, release year, publisher, purchase date and price, current value, region, special features, production year, studio, rating, director, writer, cast and characters, synopsis, tape counter, recording speed, recording date, personal rating, keywords, and so on.

One can have a loan module too to keep track of media given to friends on loan. Search features and a report generator adds real value to the application as one can search for and find the piece of video one is looking for.

The user interface is quite straightforward. Adding to the database is eased by the data entry and edit controls. Several available views easy organizing and finding information quite easy. These are the explorer view when one is trying a general search. The video view provides a view of one’s video contents available. Contents, loan and look up views are several other slicing and dicing of information available. One can get a view of money invested into the collection and the distribution of the same over the years etc.

Cons: Unless one starts to build this database when the collection started or the collection was small enough, getting the old data entered is a huge pain and usually never gets done.
