Pros: STOIK Video Converter converts video clips from one format to another. It can be any of the format in the input to the output. These formats include AVI, WM 9, DV and MPEG files. DivX with MP3 is now supported as well as Quicktime 7. Input can be from multiple video files and converted files also can be multiple. Output video and audio settings can be done with pre-installed or customized profiles. This application has been popular in its freeware version and in this release functional and interface improvements are added. The simplicity of the interface is retained. One of the pre-installed profiles supports the Windows Media 9. A profile editor helps create custom profiles for conversion.

You are able to convert multiple files into a single output file, convert a batch of files, create DV output. You can maintain the interlacing when converting between different frame sizes also, such as in NTSC to PAL or vice versa conversions. Output setting are saved into profiles and that gives you re-use capability. Upgrade to PRO version brings in a range of video edit functions. These include cutting, filtering, trimming and split etc. While splitting a video file you could do a manual cutting, scene detection is available to do that automatically. Repeated fragments, different order of clips and such other cutting tasks can be easily carried out.

Cons: With these many format supports, there can be lurking problems in conversion. So be on guard. Creation of custom profile is for specialists though.
