AVG used to be an excellent free antivirus option, but the newest version is a major step backwards. The new anti-spyware functions barely catch a fraction of actual infections. It uses several times the resources of the previous version, is intrusive on the user, and the browser toolbar is installed even if you specifically select NOT to install it.
This toolbar slows browser function, causes long load and startup times, and obstructs access to thousands of perfectly safe websites, most annoyingly flagging websites that only target IE specific functions as unsafe in other browsers. The fact that this toolbar is installed and enabled even if you select not to install it is a behavior that has earned malware status for many benign pieces of software, but when an anti-malware program engages in such deceptive installation practices, it`s disgraceful.

There are so many AV software available these days.. This one (AVG)is just.. ok, no mroe than that. It doesn`t REALLY catch latest viruses, plus give you false alerts that can drive you crazy. I like Avira better, or winclam (opensource)
