A plug-in for the BitTorrent file sharing utility that aims to improve download performance significantly.

Features: The BitTorrent Acceleration Patch is a plug-in for the popular BitTorrent client, that is a peer to peer file sharing utility. The main advantage of using the Patch is that it can manage downloads better than BitTorrent automatically does on its own. For example, on a restart BitTorrent spends (wastes) a lot of time checking the state / validity of the file chunks that it has already downloaded; since the Patch manages the pausing and resuming of downloads automatically, it can step over BitTorrent and let those file downloads proceed on a start-up (how it exactly does this, either bypassing the BitTorrent base engine or otherwise is unclear, but it is a benefit nonetheless). Similarly, on unreliable connections, the Patch makes sure that the user is not hassled with keeping track of what’s going on with the downloads (no red warnings from the BitTorrent engine – because downloads are automatically paused / resumed). Additionally, it seeks to clear out corrupted, damaged files or ones that are deemed a security risk.

Overall: This is an improvement over previous editions of the same software. But once again, in the case of fairly fast connections (DSL / Cable) it still falls short of making a significant improvement. The thing about the Acceleration Patch (and this has been true in previous versions) is that it does not trust the user enough to give him / her more power in terms of choosing what aspects of download performance to improve. The low resource usage is still one of the most important benefits of this plug-in as compared to some other similar plug-ins for the BitTorrent application. Advanced users would want to look within the BitTorrent application settings to improve performance as much as possible, and that then coupled with this Patch could make a big difference.
