DexterWire is a fork of the very popular LimeWire Gnutella client. The purpose of DexterWire is to keep and
maintain the freedoms that LimeWire may be forced to withdraw.LimeWire has been considering an alternative path
to keep them out of any legal situations they could be forced into. From what we understand, LimeWire intends to
implement a DRM filtering technology into their client. If LimeWire ever decides to implement this DRM technology,
we will be prepared to remove it from our code and distribute the client under our own branding. However, we will
continue supporting the LimeWire client development. DexterWire, although very much like LimeWire, will never
offer a paid version or a subscription service for the download or use of the DexterWire application.

DexterWire is an offshoot (fork) of the popular peer to peer file sharing application LimeWire.
Pros: DexterWire is a peer to peer file sharing application that is an offshoot (fork) of the LimeWire project. Thus, it looks and feels a lot like the LimeWire that many users are acquainted with. There are the standard P2P application functions including it being on the Gnutella framework. Support for simultaneous searches, basic filtering, adjusting upload and download bandwidth, monitoring of downloads and uploads, file management library, previewing function (in its very own media player), all come built-in.
The main difference with LimeWire is that the publisher’s promise to keep it completely in line with P2P file sharing ideals. LimeWire has been considering incorporation DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology into future releases. But the makes of DexterWire promise never to do that. In the meantime, DexterWire will always support the latest LimeWire developments (i.e. developments, features etc in new versions of LimeWire will eventually make it to DexterWire).
Cons: There are a few limitations. First and foremost the interface is a watered-down (and slightly changed in look) version of LimeWire’s interface. Some functions are not available, and customization options are also not as strong. This essentially begs the question then that why go for DexterWire over LimeWire. It seems, in basic tests that it also performs poorly as compared to LimeWire. It seems like it is already falling behind LimeWire client development, unlike what it promises.
Overall: 3 stars. Is a decent P2P applications. But there are better applications in the market, not least its parent LimeWire. All in all, most users will want to skip this.
