A lightweight plug-in for the FrostWire peer to peer file sharing client, that improves the overall performance in terms of download speed.

Features: The main benefit of a software plug-in such as FrostWire Turbo Accelerator is that it can mask some aspects of connection problems from the user, by making sure that the download performance is not severely affected because of those. For example, the Turbo Accelerator will automatically pause or resume downloads that are taking place on FrostWire depending on the current status of the connection (on slow and unreliable connections, this is a distinct benefit, because the user need not worry about what is happening with his / her downloads). The downloads are also automatically managed in the case of computer shut-down and restart, and Turbo Accelerator will automatically turn ON all the downloads as soon as the system is back up and running.

It improves on FrostWire’s baseline performance in another way, this is by making more frequent searches for peers who have a certain file being downloaded (and this is done for all the files that are being downloaded). Hassle-free user experience is provided by the fact that files that are corrupted, damaged and do not check out with its self-test are automatically discarded, requiring no input from the user (as also improving the security).

Overall: Although FrostWire Turbo Accelerator is a good bet for people who are on slower connections, there is the limitation that on fast connections (especially these days with the advent of dual core processors, and fast browsers) there isn’t much of an improvement seen. The other problem is that frankly there ought to have been some customizable features, that would have enabled users to tweak specific aspects of the download performance. As it is, such tweaking can be done (to an extent) from within the FrostWire interface, the Turbo Accelerator with its overly-simplified interface does not give much power to the user and on already efficient connections, doesn’t do much.
