A peer to peer file sharing application that is a LimeWire clone.
Pros: Similar in looks to LimeWire (and in name), LemonWire is also a peer to peer file sharing utility that runs on the Gnutella network, that can be used to download all kinds of content, including video, music, games, documents and more. In addition to basic searching and file downloading / uploading functions it adds a number of interesting features that are not available on the standard free version of LimeWire. These include swarming downloads (so that different parts of a file are downloaded simultaneously from different peers), Upload Queueing (to reduce the Bandwidth usage), Metadata searching and File hashing (both to improve searching), UltraPeer technology, and partial file sharing. Multiple parallel file searches are also supported.
The interface is similar to LimeWire’s so users who are used to that one can easily make the switch. It is available in many different languages, and also for several platforms.
Cons: Despite the fact that it does add interesting features to the basic LimeWire set, the problem is that it also has some reduced functionality. Chief among these is a lack of monitoring of uploads and downloads. Similarly, there is a reduced set of customization options, therefore advanced users who make the switch from LimeWire will find this limiting.
Overall: 4 stars. Performs all required functions. Reduced customization options as compared to LimeWire, but it makes up for this by adding some features like swarming downloads and partial file sharing.
