MP3 Torpedo is a fork of the very popular LimeWire Gnutella client. The purpose of MP3 Torpedo is to keep and
maintain the freedoms that LimeWire may be forced to withdraw.LimeWire has been considering an alternative path
to keep them out of any legal situations they could be forced into. From what we understand, LimeWire intends to
implement a DRM filtering technology into their client. If LimeWire ever decides to implement this DRM technology,
we will be prepared to remove it from our code and distribute the client under our own branding. However, we will
continue supporting the LimeWire client development. MP3 Torpedo, although very much like LimeWire, will never offer a paid version or a subscription service for the download or use of the MP3 Torpedo application.

A peer to peer file sharing program which is a variant of the popular P2P file sharing utility LimeWire.
Pros: Mp3 Torpedo is yet another variant of LimeWire. This first and foremost ensures that it follows LimeWire client development closely, so that changes in LimeWire will eventually become part of Mp3 Torpedo. It therefore works pretty much as a standard peer to peer file sharing program that allows for downloading and sharing of all types of content and files, basically utilizing the Gnutella peer to peer network.
Other features are also similar to the ones on LimeWire beginning with its very own Media Player, library management and the ability to monitor and control uploads / downloads, filtering for content type, and advanced options for managing bandwidth.
Cons: What is the need for yet another LimeWire spin off? Users will be convinced to switch if and only if there is a compelling reason to do so: i.e. the program performs significantly better than LimeWire, OR it improves the user experience in some way. Sadly Mp3 Torpedo does neither.
The performance has actually proved to be worse than that of LimeWire, ending up with fewer results and hence longer download times. As far as the user experience goes the interface is just a rehash of the LimeWire interface, but with reduced functionality. There are fewer customizations than are allowed in LimeWire. No reason for anyone to make the switch.
Overall: 3 stars. Unless a LimeWire spin off does something more than the original LimeWire, there is really no need for anyone to switch to it. Yes, the program functions but it doesn’t add anything to LimeWire and in fact has reduced functionality.
