A Peer to Peer (P2P) file-sharing program that is specifically designed for MP3 and music.

Pros: Morpheus is a P2P file sharing application that runs using Gnutella. You can search for all kinds of files: including but not limited to MP3, applications, games, movies and more. All in all, it is designed to do all that any other P2P file sharing application does. In addition to the simple searching and downloading from peers functions it adds a few features which making an interesting alternative. It is at least worth trying for most users.

Power users will like the fact that there are a number of features that they can utilize to make the program work as desired. Among advanced features there is the concept of Ultrapeers (which ensure that low capacity nodes do not create bottlenecks on the P2P tree), multisource swarming downloads, sharing of parts of a file, as well as support for the Gnutella 2 framework.

Cons: The thing is that if the software had stuck to just being a searcher for MP3 and music files it may have worked better. It suffers because there is too much going on, search results are hard to sort through.

LimeWire doesn’t have a great interface, but this one is much worse. In search tests, it also ended up showing less results than for LimeWire. This in turn affects its download performance because there are fewer peers to download from. Advanced features are available, but they take a while for users to get the hang of, plus the interface is distracting. It is not at all clear whether Ultrapeers and swarming downloads are occurring in practice, although with time they may become more prevalent.

Overall: 3 stars. Works, but it isn’t great. Few search results and a poor interface.
