Features: Softerra Adaxes is a tool that is targeted for Active Directory networks, to provide management facilitation, tightening of overall security, enhancement of administration capabilities and user self-service. Softerra Adaxes facilitates Active Directory (AD) management by enabling cross-domain management, and providing a number of extended management capabilities and management of the AD objects through a web-based interface as also an advanced Windows-based administration environment (the GUI). Role-based Security Administration model enables administrators to efficiently distribute permissions by assigning specific roles for each and every AD user. To facilitate use in a Business environment it supports the creation of Business rules, and allows the organization of AD objects into Business units. To simplify the mundane task of data entry, Property patterns have been provided. An Approval-based model ensures that certain operations cannot be executed by a given user unless first approved by a higher authority.

Several Adaxes services can be installed and run simultaneously using a shared configuration, each Adaxes client then depends on the nearest Adaxes service. These two features combine for impressive fault tolerance and load balancing across the AD network. The Adaxes service management console allows easy management of the various Adaxes services on the network and their individual configurations from a single location (this is either web-based or GUI as mentioned earlier). The configuration of each and every Adaxes service can be backed-up and restored using a command line utility.

Overall: An excellent tool that is primarily for administrators, with a host of useful features for Active Directory management. The interface is attractive and intuitive, although the Administration Console needs overall improvement to make it easier on the eyes. The program designers should have gone with a Windows look and feel.
