An LDAP client that allows you to view and manage LDAP directories.
Pros: Softerra LDAP Administrator allows a user to develop, deploy and manage LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) directories. It does so by presenting the user with a Windows Explorer style interface to view and manage directories. A user can do pretty much everything using this intuitive interface including dragging and dropping. It also provides simplified HTML views, Advanced search options and Directory search enhancements, Active Directory Partition management, Modeless and Dockable dialogs, Basket feature (which allows for a number of objects to reside in the virtual basket so that an operation such as “Export Data”, “Delete” or a modification can be done across the whole set, as if they were physically or logically co-located in the same container), a Virtual List View (VLV) and support for simple paging, and Groups and member management functions. Security is a key and it provides for SASL authentication, Start/Stop TLS operation, Integration of SSL certificates (through an SSL certificate manager) and a credential management feature. It supports a number of open standards including DSML version 1 and 2, XML-RPC, and XSLT. It can use Active Directory, Novell Directory Services, Netscape/Iplanet and other LDAP servers. It also features complete support for the LDAP version 3 suite of servers. It also has an advanced Distinguished Names (DN) editor, which allows choosing DNs by visually navigating through a list or tree instead of having to type the name of the DN.
Cons: As the application designers promise the interface does look like Windows explorer. But it seems like it is an older version of explorer that they had in mind. Nevertheless the interface serves its function and the software has no real limitations.
Overall: 5 stars. Pretty good piece of software, works well. The interface needs a little improvement but is fairly intuitive for user’s who will use this kind of stuff.
