Since it is Java based, WinMX Music works with Windows, Mac and Linux. As a Gnutella client, WinMX Music is able to connect to about 2 million other users enabling the same size library as FastTrack and 2/3rds of the library available through ED2K.
WinMX Music comes with everything you are looking for in a P2P Gnutella file sharing application, like the capability to filter search results by file type, artist, size, bandwidth etc. In addition, users are able to resume downloads and throttle upload bandwidth and are allowed to download from multiple hosts to obtain their file faster. WinMX Music has got a prosperous user community, loads of files and you've got pretty much all the chances to find what you're searching for.
To make things easier for the end user, WinMX Music conveniently gives you fields for title, artist, album, track number, genre, year, length and bitrate.
The program doesn't leave out useful features that other p2p applications may overlook and its search results provide more information on the files you're interested in. Apart from separating your searches by tabs, it also displays file type icons to easily make a distinction between files you're downloading.

A peer to peer (P2P) file sharing program that utilizes several of the popular P2P frameworks and is based on the WinMX P2P file sharing utility.
Pros: Based on the WinMX P2P file sharing utility, WinMX Music is a variant that has some advanced features. It searches and downloads files from the Gnutella, eDonkey2K, and the FastTrack networks. It also supports the downloading of Torrents. There are the standard functions: library management, monitoring of uploads and downloads, filtering by content and keyword, chatting with peers, previews of files being downloaded in an in-built media player, and simultaneous searches. For the “music” part it allows users to filter or sort by file type, artist name, album name, genre and so on. It is JAVA based and therefore works on Mac and Linux in addition to Windows. Some additional features are the ability to make dynamic queries and the tracking of rare files (that a user may be interested in).
Cons: The word for the color scheme for the tool is horrible. The choice of colors really makes it hard to see what’s going on and will significantly reduce its utility because you will find yourself jumping to minimize the window. One wonders what made the designers select this particular color scheme.
It also seems like there is reduced functionality here as compared to WinMX (for example certain tabs of WinMX are missing). It has limited customization options and this is a drag for advanced users. The performance overall is not better than other P2P file sharing applications. There doesn’t seem to be any good reason to make the switch to this tool.
Overall: 3 stars. Works but nothing special to offer. The interface is a real eye sore and will definitely turn off most users.
