Editor's review

The internet is a huge space dotted with countless websites and plethora of interesting portals. While browsing through the web you may like a particular site and would like to save its link for future. Now this is typically done by using the favorites or bookmark feature in the browser. However the process is cumbersome as transferring bookmarks between browsers and even other devices is a hassle. Now you can try out a completely different approach to saving your bookmarks by using the HTMtied 2.1 application which converts them into mini files that can be saved onto your system or moved to any device for easy access.

The HTMtied 2.1 is rather easy to use and you can get the hang of it within seconds. After you have installed it, for saving bookmarks you just need to copy any webpage from your browser, initiate the application and just paste link on to your system or even a removable drive. When the process is successfully completed you are likely to hear the iconic Tada sound. A small file is immediately created which essentially is an HTML page which would bring up the original web page once it get loaded by your internet browser. If required you can use the tool to convert multiple URLs into files and process is as easy as a cakewalk. The files created by this tool can simply be copy pasted into any mobile device and is completely platform agnostic. The application is extremely compact at less than 100kb and can be installed in any version Windows operating system from XP onwards.

Overall the HTMtied 2.1 does its stated job of creating bookmark files with ease and its optimum performance earns it a score of two and half rating stars. However its limiting features with will be an impediment in increasing its usage.

Publisher's description

HTMtied instantly converts any Internet address (link, URL, bookmark, favorite) to a very small HTML file that when opened in any browser, it will automatically load that address. Use it when you want to save an Internet address for future use on your computer, tablet, smartphone, web storage, Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, etc.
Using HTMtied is easy as 1, 2, 3. Step 1: Copy the Internet address from your browser's address bar or from any link to the Clipboard. Step 2: Run HTMtied (from the Desktop, Start Menu, or better yet, from a shortcut key you define). HTMtied will automatically convert that address to a linking HTML file and copy the file to the Clipboard. Step 3: Simply paste the file anywhere you want.
Starting with Version 2.0, HTMtied supports conversion of links en masse: copy any number of Internet addresses on separate lines to the Clipboard or drag and drop any number of URL files over HTMtied, and linking HTML files will be created for each address. There is also the new Direct Mode, a special HTMtied shortcut that, when clicked, it will automatically save all the link HTML files to a directory of your choosing (Documents, Dropbox, etc.).
HTMtied is so easy to use that it doesn't even need a user interface: if everything goes well, the famous "Tada" sound is played. On failure, an error sound is played. HTMtied can also be downloaded and run directly, without installation.
Windows and Internet Explorer can save Internet addresses to URL files. However, URL files are not a standard and cannot be used across different platforms. Linking HTML files created by HTMtied work anywhere. And yes, HTMtied can convert URL files to linking HTML files: simply copy the URL files on the Clipboard and run HTMtied. Or drag and drop the URL files over the HTMtied icon.

I use this great little program to solve one important problem: saving useful Internet links. I have configured HTMtied to run when I press a shortcut (for example Ctrl + Shift + H). When I find something interesting online, I just select the link, press Ctrl + C (to copy it), then Ctrl + Shift + H to launch HTMtied, and then paste (Ctrl + V) in my Dropbox folder. With just 3 keyboard shortcuts, I have my favorite links saved in Dropbox, so I can access them anywhere, even on my Android phone.
