A basic network testing tool that analyzes Ethernet and IP packet headers to display traffic related information in a simple but useful interface.

Features: LAN Tornado is a way to do some basic stress testing on your network. It features a traffic generator (IP and UDP) and collects the IP and Ethernet headers for the generated traffic from various hosts on the LAN and displays testing information about them. Among the information that is displayed for each host is a loading percentage, an average packet size, average bytes per second value, and an average packets per second value. It will also tell you if you a particular host dies or is unreachable during a test. A log file is generated for each test that is conducted and this can be used for further analysis and review. It allows you to change some settings (such as the MTU size, host address and port numbers, and load setting) on the fly, without requiring you to terminate the current test. It can be used to test all kinds of devices on the network including switches, routers, servers and hosts.

Overall: This software is actually better than it looks. The interface is pretty basic and not at all colorful and that leads one to think that there isn’t much here. But it is actually going to be pretty useful for administrators, students and network enthusiasts. The main thing is that it shows information related to each IP host separately including the traffic being experienced by that host and the relative loading (this is after the traffic generation phase, which generates the traffic used for testing). However, given this, there could have been some more useful features which have been omitted, such as a packet trace for more detailed analysis, especially of TCP flows. There is no TCP traffic generator.
