A tool that can boost the performance of your internet connections.

Pros: 1 Click Boost 2.5 is a tool that can be used to boost or optimize the performance of your PC and your internet connection. It works not only for dial-ups but for broadband as well, including access through a local area network. It aims to optimize the internet connection so that most of the available bandwidth is used at all times. A user can specify goals and the tool will try to keep performance at the required level. For example the software has a memory management module that works in the background and that tries to keep memory usage within a specified target, by freeing up memory from time to time. Complementary to this is the fact that it also tries to free up Virtual memory from time to time. Both these factors should contribute to improved performance. It also has a set of monitoring and reporting features that allow the user to view statistics and analyze the performance of the system over time.

Cons: For broadband connections and computers that have a fair amount of resources there isn’t much of a performance gain, if at all. The problem is that these days computers are so designed as to utilize as much of the available bandwidth as possible. The software doesn’t do a job of removing certain bottlenecks such as may naturally slow a connection down (like the browser for example). The background monitoring of processes and automatic freeing up of Virtual memory does not seem to work very well. In tests, it seemed to do nothing at all (nor did the memory goals seemed to be achieved over time). There was no difference in PC and internet performance with or without 1 Click Boost. Perhaps a finer set of customization options can allow a user to tweak performance according to his/her needs.

Overall: 3 stars. It will work well for slower computers and connections. On faster computers and faster connections there is hardly any benefit whatsoever. A lack of useful customization options limits its utility for the advanced user. No further tweaking than what comes bundled is possible.
