An SNMP based tool for monitoring and supervising of IP-based networks.

Pros: The AggreGate SNMP Network Manager uses SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to enable an administrator to remotely monitor and manage IP (internet protocol) based devices on a network, including routers, switches, servers and even IP phones. It can be used for monitoring network traffic, bandwidth usage, security flaws, the functioning of Servers, printers, backup devices and other IP based devices. It can poll the MIB (Management Information Base) database; it can cache SNMP data; it has capabilities for SNMP trap handling (a kind of fault or interruption on the network); it has event filtering and charting capabilities; and more. Alerts can be generated on a customization basis and these include pop ups, sound alerts, emails, SMS or other notification methods. For data handling it has a wealth of features: an SQL-based querying framework, grouped operations, configuration replication, data exporting and importing, custom GUI widgets, a task scheduler and an expression language. It can function in fully automatic mode as well as an interactive mode. It allows for integration with enterprise systems such as ERP and CRM. This support is provided through the JAVA/.NET APIs. It has a multi-user environment and supports a number of different specifiable permission (access) schemes. It requires no installation on the remote devices that need to be monitored as it only uses SNMP for all its monitoring as well as management tasks.

Cons: The interface allows for a number of functions, perhaps too many functions. There can be information overload in that too many things are shown to the user at the same time. Otherwise there are no significant limitations. There may be some issues with Kernel versions – not sure which version it has been designed for.

Overall: 4 stars. 5 stars also possible. It works and allows for control of IP-based network devices, but the interface has too much information and takes getting used to. It has also not been made clear which Linux Kernel versions the software has been designed for.
