NetGong is a sophisticated network monitoring tool that allows network administrators, webmasters, and Internet service providers to monitor any networked device on the Internet, corporate intranet, or TCP/IP LAN and receive alerts immediately via audible alarm, message, e-mail, or third-party software when a connection fails. It is a powerful personal monitoring product delivering low cost, simplicity of operation, and round-the-clock coverage. Main features: runs as a system service automatically on startup, allows you to monitor network devices or services without installing an agent on each machine, allows quick network resource configuration, allows all parameters to be set independently for each network resource, permits you to temporarily disable monitoring of certain resources, alerts you to failures using a variety of techniques ranging from audible alarms to third-party software, allows you "fine tune" the alerting functions to avoid unnecessary alerting during an extended failure, alerts can be enabled for any combination of failure and recovery notices, allows custom alerts to be created for each monitored resource, each alert type can be tested in order to verify that the alert is configured correctly prior to going live, allows e-mail notification via SMTP with the server of your choice, supports keyword values and customized message information, offers real-time and historical reporting capabilities to assist you in tracking network resources availability, provides reports in HTML format to help keep track of network resources availability in an easy to view list, provides remote access to the monitoring results using a Web browser.

A networking monitoring tool that allows network administrators to remotely monitor a host of networked devices.
Features: NetGong is an agent less network monitoring tool for network administrators that provides a central location from which to monitor a large number of devices on the local network. This can work both as an addition to a larger suite of network management and monitoring tools or as a standalone solution that is targeted at monitoring and simple network reconfiguration (which is possible through NetGong). Depending on where it is deployed in the corporate structure it can be used as a hierarchical management tool, geared towards the skills of the available administration personnel or technician. For example it could be placed such that it looks over the entire LAN, or it can be placed only at the level of a smaller domain (say that of a specific department). Also, the available tools can be adjusted according to the personnel who is in charge, so that it has a fine grained access control system allowing different levels of control.
It runs as a system service that consumes very few resources, and works in agent less mode, i.e. it does not require the installation of any software on the devices that are being monitored. Devices can be configured (reconfigured) either globally by a single global settings option or by setting their individual parameters. When faults are discovered, or issues requiring the administrator / technicians attention, there are alerts generated (at different customizable severity levels; these can be emailed to remote location as well) and the device under consideration can be put into maintenance mode, i.e. it is no longer actively monitored, until and unless it is put back out of maintenance mode. There is also a web based interface and a number of reporting options.
Overall: This is an excellent tool for network administrators and may also be used to a certain extent by network enthusiasts and students wishing to learn more (for example the main difference between an enterprise network and a small home network is the scale of the network). It has an excellent interface that is visually well-designed as well as fairly intuitive and easy to use.
