Files and folders seem to pile up, appear from nowhere and hide in the most obscure parts of the hard drive. Is that a familiar situation for you? Then you'll probably benefit from installing Describer, a tool that adds comments to your files and folders.
Describer lets you create a text comment for any file or folder on your hard drive or removable media, such as floppy disks and CDs (it works even on read-only media). Now you won't have to open the long-forgotten-about file in order to find out what's inside. Just put your mouse over the file name and up pops the window with the comment. The comments can be added through the right-click menu and are actually in the HTML format, so you can vary fonts and colors as well as do simple text formatting while editing comments.
The tool uses the Active Desktop engine to execute itself. The good thing about it is that it doesn't use any more memory in addition to the four or five MB already used by the Active Desktop feature. The bad thing is that you have to turn the Active Desktop on in order to use this tool. It's worth it, though. Download it today and give it a try.
