Working at the office non-stop can cause a lot of stress; meeting deadlines, making charts and meeting up with clients takes a lot of toll on the mind. And there are only a few ways to take that load off. There are a lot of software applications that you can download off the net for free–flash games, small videos and so on. Cockroach on Desktop 1.2 is one such software. It’s free, light on the resources and a lot of fun, whether you’re using it in the office as a practical joke on your colleagues or as a prank on your friends.
First off, the app is just a mere 2.7 MB download, no big deal even if you’re on a slow network. But what strikes you the most about it after installation is its simplicity. It delivers whatever it promises to deliver, but you have full control over it via a very simple interface that sits in the system tray. In fact, it delivered more than we expected – the animated cockroaches looked very real, a lot of effort has gone into animating them and adding those little details, and it shows. For instance, the way the little bugs move all over the screen is almost exactly like in real life, all of them move randomly in swarms. And the best part is the fact that the whole thing doesn’t take up much system resources even when it’s running, so you don’t have to worry about hampering productivity in any way. The app works perfectly on any system, we tried it on an old computer to scare one of our co-workers and it ran like a charm.
All in all, this app does a very good job of doing what it promises to deliver, and then some more. Like mentioned earlier, you can download it to have fun at both the office and at home with friends. It earns a rating of 3 stars from us, and recommends at least a single try.
