PKZIP, which first popularized the ZIP format, is the industry standard command line utility for compressing files. It consists of three core components: PKZIP; PKUNZIP, which compress and decompress ZIP files; and PKSFX (ZIP2.EXE), which adds PKSFX to existing ZIP files, turning them into self-extracting files. Version 2.50 includes support for Windows 95/98 Long File Names. It also increases the file storage limitation for a single ZIP archive from 5,000 to more than 16,000 files.
