Higher editions offer additional options which are optimized for regular or professional use. HDShredder works independent of partition layout, file system, and operating system. It also works with proprietary formats which otherwise would be inaccessible. There are several versions offered, each with additional functionality. The utility would run even without an working operating system. Business and personal data is thus protected against unauthorized or illegal access. Contents of hard disks and other mass storage are deleted at the physical level very reliably.You can use the shredder at specific partitions and choose the deletion algorithm to be according to some international standards. Partition layouts, file systems, and operating system differences do not mean anything to the application, it deletes equally well in all situations. There is an editor available through which you can choose the deletion pattern including a wholly customized one. You can specify how many runs with what pattern needs to be done. Internal and external SATA II devices are handled as are Firewire interface devices. These include memory cards too. Most hard disk interface as SCSI, SAS, RAID, Dynamic volumes etc are supported. The drive designations are same as used in Windows. The download package also contains a self booting version to be used in the absence of an OS.
Overall: Quite a useful utility.
