This is a database of post code and associated data of Canada.

Canadian postal codes database includes postal code, city name, province name, phone area code, timezone, latitude, longitude and street name in Canada. The complete database contains over 780,000 precise records. The data can be obtained in several formats including ASCII text, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and dBASE V formats. The highest and lowest street number can be used to validate the postal code for mailing addresses. The complete database contains unique Postal Code records with individual latitude and longitude. There are several location based applications that can be developed over this database. The suppliers also have a special redistributable license for the database to make distributing the data with applications quite easy. Initially the database is available on a monthly subscription basis, upgrade to an annual subscription is also available.

Historical data from 2006 onwards also can be acquired. The value of such databases really depend on how authentic the data is and how often they are updated to keep the data current. So best strategy would be to actually try out the data for areas you are familiar with and check the authenticity of the postal codes, the highest and lowest street numbers on some street that are known etc. Besides mail address verification, this data could be useful for GIS based applications and adding the data to map based data, etc. There is a range of applications possible that use this kind of location data.
